On the forums a while back, we got to alking about civilization. I commented that about our so-called "civilization." We have legalized murder, we let people tell us that homosexuality is OK, and we let liars run our country. And we call this civilization??! Dulcimerist then pointed out that Roman culture was worse than ours, yet Jesus still came from it, and Christianity got its start in Roman culture. It's a comforting thought when the sinfulness of this world gets you down. :)
However, we must have had some advancement in that past 2000 years, so lemme think...let's see...it's no longer OK to sell your kids into slavery...we no longer have slavery...ummmm..there was something else...I can't think of it...oh well. Other than that. that's all I can think of. 2000 years. 2-3 advances. *shakes head* I'm no expert on Roman culture, so doubtless there are other advances, but still... it's like Solomon said in Ecclesiastes "There is nothing new under the sun."

You also have to admit...freedom to speak your mind is kinda nice too :P
But I agree. Sometimes I think God lets us fall so we can see how great He really is. So if society were to advance, and never fall, we would have no reason for Him. As disappointing as it is, to see that nothing has ever changed, and nothing will ever change while we are on this earth, how wonderful a thought to think of the perfect world God has in store for us with Him in heaven. After all, if everything were perfect, heaven wouldn't be anything new.
Anyways, that's just my 2 cents

But do we really have the freedom to speak our mind? With all the political correctness junk, do we really have the freedom to say what we want when we want?

True...but hey, at least we don't have Roman legions on our tail waiting to kill us for saying something against President Bush... :P But yes, I do agree, sometimes that freedom isn't really free any more...

Freedom never has been free. It's always been one of the most expensive items in the store of life. :P And now they're trying to water it down!! Take it away! Well, they've always tried to take it away. They're just taking on a different form. Americans who don't appreciate the cost and value of this precious thing called freedom.

We have indoor plumbing, but we are pretty pathetic.
