Shakespeare + Poe = Awesome!

Posted At: 9:03am by AgentDelta
As many of you know, I am obsessed with Poe. Edgar Allan Poe, that is.

As many of you may not know, I am currently reading Macbeth for school.

As many of you have probably gathered from the title of this post, I think it would be great fun to combine the two.

For example, pretend that you are at a rehearsal for a performance of Macbeth. Everybody has been saying the same lines for who knows how long, trying to perfect. You think that the rehearsal needs some excitement. You have the part of Macbeth. The follwing scene ensues:

*Rehersal for Act I, Scene III*

First Witch: "All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Glamis!"

Second Witch: "All hail Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!"

Third Witch: "All hail, Macbeth! thou shalt be king hereafter."

Macbeth (you): "Be that word our sign of parting, bird(s) or fiend(s)!
Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!"

Wouldn't that be great? Wouldn't it? You get to decide! Post your opinions in the comments. I can't wait to hear what y'all think!

(Joking as always)

Re: Shakespeare + Poe = Awesome!

It's an awesome idea (which obviously means that it's crazy since I'm the one say that)! I hereby delclare that all across the country anyone performing Shakespeare should substitute bits of Poe for their lines whenever the whim strikes them! :P

-Aaron, fellow fan of Poe and Shakespeare who's taking a cool class this year called Analyzing Shakespeare in which he gets to read a ton of Shakespeare and think about neat psychology stuff

Re: Shakespeare + Poe = Awesome!

That would be so cool. I saw MacBeth in the theatre, but it could use some spicing up. The witches were annoying, not creepy, so Poe could be integrated quite nicely there.

That is a cool idea!

And maybe Poe could come up with a GOOD ending for MacBeth. :-D

I had to read MacBeth last year. It should be called three gimmicks and then you die.
