The Operation Log of Agent Delta

Time for another post. This one is even going to be vaguely theological!

Anyway, the other day somebody asked me “what is truth?” Men have pondered this question for centuries, and people often rank it among the most profound philosophical questions. However, I Corinthians 3:19 says “For the wisdom of this world is folly with God” (ESV). Does this verse apply to the question of what is truth? I think so. In John 14:6, Jesus says “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (ESV). So, according to the Bible, truth is not a what, it’s a who. Imagine the look you’d get from most people if you told them that!

What is the point of this post, you ask? Well, I guess there really isn’t one. I just wanted to share a thought that came to me the other night. Make of it what you will.

Well I can tell you what it is not-- It is not that everyone can have their own truth and all be right. To have or know the truth implies ONE truth, not many truths. In the post modern world we live in, we all can't have our individual truths. Why what happens when these truths conflict? Where is the TRUE truth?

Thank you!!! Someone agrees!!! There is only ONE truth!!! So many people think believing in something is better than not believing! They think that it doesn't matter what you have faith in... just as long as you have faith in something. And these people that say this... call themselves Christians!!! Try to explain to them that they're wrong!!! It doesn't usually sit well with them. I've even had people say that saying someone's religion is wrong is not very Christian of me!!!! lol. Yeah I'd like to be there when they try to explain that one to God!

Your comment brings James 2:19 to mind: "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder!" (ESV).

I agree that many people nowadays seem to think that details aren't important. Just so long as you have a religion, you'll be saved. Just so long as you bring change, the world will improve. Yeah right. Specifics do matter. Not all religions save. Not all change is for the better.

It's nice to know that someone out there hasn't been swallowed up by the world's thinking!!! so bravo for you! Sometimes it's hard to explain such things to people. Especially ones who aren't Lutheran. It's amazing how many Lutherans don't even understand!!!
