Bloghardt's Reflector

“If now I seek the forgiveness of sins, I do not run to the cross, for I will not find it given there… But I will find in the sacrament or Gospel the word which distributes, presents, offers, and gives to me that forgiveness which was won on the Cross.” (AE 40, 214)

That sinking feeling...

Posted At: 3:21pm by Bloghardt
I've been a Mets fan since ever since I've loved baseball.  I think it happened in 1986.  I got drawn in.  I got captivated.  Was it Billy Buckner?  Was it that they seemed larger than life?  I don't know, I just fell in love.  The Mets won.  They were larger than life.  That's the 1986 Mets up on my banner celebrating after winning the World Series.

I'm a Mets Fan.  It's like a sin in Texas to be a Mets fan.  My congregation just accepts me for what I am - Mets fan, LSU fan.  It's one of those things they say, "He preaches ok, teaches faithfully, but he's an LSU fan and.. somehow he's a Mets fan." (Shudder)

It's hard being a Mets fan.  In 1988, I watched on Sunday night as Kirk Gibson and Mike Scioscia homered to beat the Mets.  I skipped school the next day to watch the Mets lose.  They never recovered.  The Mets lost the NLCS and the Dodgers went on to win the World Series.

I watched the Subway Series where the Mets hobbled into the Series to be torched by the Yankees.  Guh.  I hate the Yankees.  Is that sin?  It can't be the sin to hate the Yankees.  The Lord humbles the proud and exalts the lonely.  The Yankees are clearly the proud (grin).

Since the Subway Series, my Mets have lost and lost and lost.  It's been painful.  It's been awful.  Every year, watching them, loving them, and watching them lose.

Do you wanna know the sinking feeling that I'm having today?  I've watched my Mets play just about every game this year.  I watched them tentatively, reading the sports pages every night.  Then, I got tired of watching them in a little java applet and I got mlb.tv and watched every game on my computer as I worked, studied, prepared.

This year was so different.  They won.  They won some more.  They kept winning.  I was so excited when they clinched.  I was so proud of them.

Then, their best pitcher got hurt.  Then, another starter got hurt.  Guh.  Things look bleek.   John Maine is pitching for the Mets.  He's a rookie.  My favorite rookie.   But, he's still a rookie.

Java applet open.  I'll watch as long as I can until confirmation.  I'll sneak in check score.

Things look so bad... you can't win when your pitchers are all hurt.  Or, maybe you can...

My stomach hurts... I've got such a nasty sinking feeling....

Furcal lined out.  Kenny Lofton strikes out.  Nomar grounds out to third.  My favorite Met rookie gets the Dodgers 1-2-3 in the first!   Let's go Mets!

METS WIN! METS WIN! WOW! METS WIN!

Re: That sinking feeling...

If the Dodgers didn't make so many stupid mistakes, it would have been more interesting. Two guys getting called out at the plate simultaneously? Pathetic.

I am rooting for the Dodgers. Why? Because I know that the Cards can beat them. If it is a Cards - Met NLCS, the Mets win 4-0.
