So the question arises... "How's little Sophia?"
Sophia went home to Louisiana There she showed everyone her new hobbies.
One of her classmates was working on the muscles needed to tear paper. She thought that was the coolest thing.
Of course, Sophia didn't do it for her teachers. She never does anything for them. She's too stubborn for that. She does what she does on her own time. She performs for no one!
Now, she tears up EVERYTHING - newspapers, magazines, mail, anything in reach. The sound of paper tearing followed by a little girl's laughter fills my house. Sure, some things get in her way that she shouldn't tear - books! She's an equal opportunity destroyer! And as she goes, she leaves nothing but a paper trail.
Her teachers told us, "She doesn't do that!" What? Are you kidding? We have the torn bills to prove it! Evidently the little stinker held out on them! So, we gave her a paper and then....
Rip. RIp. Laugh Laugh. Rip Rip. Laugh Laugh.
Her other hobby involves anything that her brothers are doing. Crayons. Painting. Anything. She's in the middle of it. If her brothers are doing it, she's on it. Where the action is, there she is. Here she is painting...
So, how's Sophia doing this summer?
Sophia is doing just fine. She's living out her vocation as princess. In Christ her Heavenly Father couldn't be more pleased.
Could it be that simple that God is pleased with us when we rip up things or when we paint? Could God be that for us?
No. He isn't. Not on our own. God doesn't love us because we are lovable or because Sophia is cute and small or even special.
God loves us in the giving up of His Son. God loves us that way. The Father gives up His Boy, His only begotten, who takes upon Himself our sins. He who knew no sin became our sin and by His death redeemed us from sin, death, and the power of the devil. For all. For you. For me. For Sophia.
So, in Christ, every rip is special to our Heavenly Father. In Christ, every sloppy paint stroke done makes the host of heaven take notice.
"Your attention please, Heavenly Hosts. Is everyone watching? Look here, Father! I am baptized. I am a child of God."
Paint.. Paint... "I don't even have to stay in the lines! Look at me! I am an heir of heaven!"
You too in Christ. He couldn't be more pleased with you doing what you are given to do - student, son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, worker, husband, wife, child, toddler - even paper shredder and painter. Do what is given to you to do with the confidence that you have a Father that couldn't love you any more than He does in Christ. Not because you are you, but because Christ was crucified for you.
He's sitting at the edge of His seat. What will you do next in Him? He can't wait!!! So, happy ripping and painting! In the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Pr. Borghardt,
Thank you for not being you.
Thank you for Christ being all.
Thank Sophia too!
