Bloghardt's Reflector

“If now I seek the forgiveness of sins, I do not run to the cross, for I will not find it given there… But I will find in the sacrament or Gospel the word which distributes, presents, offers, and gives to me that forgiveness which was won on the Cross.” (AE 40, 214)

Random thoughts as I sermonize...

Posted At: 12:29pm by Bloghardt

I love next year's confirmation class telling me that they know what's up with Bloghardt:

"Baptism" is the answer to every question.

Good!  Easy in theory, much harder in practice - as we learned yesterday from Pastor Zill with some Baptismal footprints in the sand. (wink)

How have you begun your day?  Did you begin late, running behind, racing to make up for the sleep you lost.  Or did you begin today in His Name, with His Name on your forehead?

Who you are is baptized.  You are the Father's child.  What's true of Christ is true of you.  He earned it on the cross and delivered it to you in Baptism.

So, where is our rejoicing apart from Baptism?

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

We shouldn't (and let me emphasize SHOULD'T) rejoyce apart from our baptism. But we do - it's our sinful nature. we needn't look anywhere else but to the cross to find happiness; what could make you happier to know all your sins have been forgiven without you having lifted a finger? and yet we wander to other forms of happiness, worldly forms that hold no stock to us at all. Mat 6:19-21 (to uses mop's verse from the other day). we should store our treasures in heaven, not on earth.

I'm but a stranger here, Heav'n is my home;
Earth is a desert dread, Heav'n is my home.
Danger and sorrow stand Round me on every hand;
Heav'n is my fatherland, Heav'n is my home.

Therefore I murmur not, Heav'n is my home;
Whate'er my earthly lot, Heav'n is my home;
And I shall surely stand There at my Lord's right hand.
Heav'n is my fatherland, Heav'n is my home.

I think I've just been schooled.

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

Points for FL1 with the hymn quote, and mop, you were very schooled

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

We should begin everyday in remembering our baptism. Key word: should.

When you live in the world of PB and his lemmings (femlems included) you are reminded constanly that some days the only thing that you have going for you is your baptism.

Thanks for that. :)

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

should sounds a bit "law-ish" doesn' it?

We are "given" to begin each day in our baptism.

Now, how else are we going to begin our day? We can pick ourselves up, wash up, clean up, get ourselves going, and hope that our mind catches up, so that we can make a good show of it to God...

Or... we can make the sign of the cross and let His Name be what starts our day - whether we are fully awake or not.

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

Sorry... didnt mean to sound "law-ish" My bad.

Re: Random thoughts as I sermonize...

No, don't back down just yet, Femlemtwo. We SHOULD begin each day in our baptism.

SHOULD works as long as it is understood as "how else are we going to begin our day."

SHOULD is lawish if it is MUST.

You were right. I just helped make sure that it didn't go into the Law. Got it?
