Bloghardt's Reflector

“If now I seek the forgiveness of sins, I do not run to the cross, for I will not find it given there… But I will find in the sacrament or Gospel the word which distributes, presents, offers, and gives to me that forgiveness which was won on the Cross.” (AE 40, 214)

HAPPY NEWS FROM LOUISIANA!

Posted At: 8:11pm by Bloghardt

What happy news today coming out of New Orleans...

There is Divine Service in Jefferson Parish on Sunday!  The only Christian Church that is worshiping in Jefferson Parish is Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Metairie, LA.  What unbelievable news!

Rev. Bradley Drew, whom we have been praying for and supporting, has been given access to go in and out of New Orleans for the purpose of helping with relief efforts in Metairie.  The Parish President has authorized services at Mount Olive and relief workers and residents are being encouraged to attend on Sunday.  Pastor Drew spent the day riding in a boat pulling people out of the water.  He evidently told people, "I've come to where you are, now on Sunday you can come to where I'll be."  Now that's true help!  Help out of the water and help which will last unto eternal life!

I also hear that Rev. David Lofthus may be having worship services on Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church in Harahan, LA. Happy news indeed!

I talked to Pastor Anderson in Baton Rouge today on the phone and he informed me how the size of Baton Rouge, my home town, has doubled due to the residents of New Orleans living temporarily.  I rejoiced to hear that Good Shepherd is working "hand and hand" with the Southern District to help support the pastors and parishes of New Orleans displaced by Katrina.  President Schultz, the Southern District President, has been asked to preach at Good Shepherd in the near future.

But not all news is happy...  I visited a family today that was displaced by the hurricane in Spring, TX.  She said her house had some damage, but was still standing.  But, with tears welling in her eyes, she informed me that you can smell New Orleans from Houma, LA, which is about forty-five miles away.
