Hurricane Wilma is out there... you know it's coming. You know it's about
to hit you. But, it's moving and moving...You've been preparing
for it's coming for days. It's all you think about. Will your family
be safe? Will your house? Do you evacuate? Do you not? What
about traffic? Will there be gas?
You decided to stay and you went to try to stock up at Walmart and it was a
mad house. You put ice in the freezer and turned the fridge to max.
You turned the AC so cold that you had to wear a sweater. You boarded up
what you could.
You step outside and it is just odd. There's a strange silence. A
calm. You wonder if the animals have any clue what is happening. You
look around to see the limbs... which might fall on your house. What else
can you do?
Back to the television - it's on every local channel. One weather man
says this, one says that. They act as if they know, but there is such
uncertainty.
You can't sleep. You try to eat. What will be left afterwards?
I know. I grew up doing this. We did it recently with
Katrina and Rita. This is the life on the Gulf Coast.
Our prayers go out to the folks in Florida tonight as they wait for Wilma
to bust through there. Our prayers are that there will be no loss of life
and that the damage would be minimal.
He has not abandoned you. He won't. He can't after Calvary.
Don't fret. Don't despair. All things are
in His hand - the Wilma, the wind, the waves, and the seas. Nothing will happen to
you apart from His loving care - your Baptism says that, the Word says that, His
Body and Blood put into you at the Supper says that.
It's going to pass. He will bring you through it. Even if it doesn't, He is faithful. He will deliver you.
"He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. Then they are glad
because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven." (Psalm
107:29-30)
