“If now I seek the forgiveness of sins, I do not run to the cross, for I will not find it given there… But I will find in the sacrament or Gospel the word which distributes, presents, offers, and gives to me that forgiveness which was won on the Cross.” (AE 40, 214)
Which of these pastors doesn't belong?
Of course, Pastor Peperkorn belongs there. He not only the editor of the magazine but also was the Chaplain of DTBL and the celebrant of the Divine Service.
Dr. Nagel, who preached the Divine Service, is standing to his right. What I didn't learn from my catechism instructor, I learned from Dr. Nagel. He's like one of my heroes! How could he not be up there?
Pastor Brent Kuhlman is to left of Peperkorn. What a gifted pastor he is... wow... not only does he know the Gospel, but he confesses it so clearly and in the way that even I can understand.
So.. what's up with Bloghardt being there? It's just funny. What's even more comical is that being in front of tons of people has always made me really nervous. My youth give me a hard time because I can't eat before preaching or teaching.
At seminary, I didn't lector at all. I avoided it like the plague. It was just too scary! So, even though I graduated from the St. Louis Seminary, that's the first time I was up "there" at St. Louis. Which makes it even more comical. Isn't that just funny? Bloghardt is not just "up there" but "up there" with Peperkorn, Nagel, and Kuhlman. WOWZERS!
Now... I emailed my wife this picture, her response was a simple: "lookin' good." Her moral of the story: "If you don't really belong somewhere and you aren't sure what you are supposed to be doing, at least do your best to 'look good.'" Thank you, Amy.
