Higher Things has many wonderful opportunities planned during the blocks of free time at the Asheville FOR YOU Conference. Groups will be able to participate in outdoor sports like sand volleyball, basketball, mini-golf, go on challenge courses, or play laser tag. Your group can go for a hike in the mountains together or individuals can bring a fishing pole and go down to the catch-and-release lake!
Higher Things will also provide each participant with one free game of mini-golf at Ridgecrest. Additional games will cost $2 per person, per game. There's no pre-registration required for mini-golf. The only requirement is that you have fun!
Tuesday Night Activities
Tuesday evening of the conference we will have a special set of activities for you to enjoy. From 7:45 to 9:00 p.m. we are pleased to have the band BALSAM RANGE play for your entertainment in the Arc. Balsam Range is a genuine Blue Grass band and they will be accompanied by a championship clogging team which will perform For You as well. Feel free to sit back and listen to some great bluegrass or get out and dance along. We will also have the Clouds Coffee Shop, and The Nibble Nook open as well as the For You Game Room. Feel to come and go as you please.
Balsam Range is based in Haywood County, North Carolina. They consist of five men native to the region “where the Smokies meet the Blue Ridge. The music of Balsam Range is a combination of rich rhythmic bluegrass and songs of the old bands – Flatt and Scruggs and the Stanley Brothers. There’s old time acoustic tunes and many original tunes as well. The members of Balsam range features some of the regions most popular and experienced players: Grammy-winning banjo picker Marc Pruett, bassist Tim Surrett, mandolin player Darren Nicholson, fiddler Buddy Melton and guitarist Caleb Smith. Balsam Range feels that it is an honor to share their musical heritage, to show their mountain culture and to create exciting music For You!
Challenge Courses and Laser Tag
Due to time and space limitations, groups must pre-register for the challenge courses and laser tag. Each group can do either the ropes or play laser tag – not both. We're sorry! There's just not enough time in the day for everyone to do both!
Please email or call our Local Arrangements chairman, Pastor Kent Schaaf and inform him whether your group would like to do the challenge courses or play laser tag. There are a limited number of spots for the ropes courses, so these will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
For more information about the Challenge Courses and Laser Tag, check out the Challenge Course and Laser Tag FAQs linked below.
Ridgecrest requires that all participants have special permission slips signed by parents of all minors doing the challenge courses and playing laser tag. Please download the form here. Groups will not be permitted to participate in either the challenge courses without a completed form for each minor in the group. We'd hate for you to get to the conference, have an opportunity to go on the challenge course and not be able to because you don't have this form signed! Group leaders are responsible for these forms.
So, talk to your groups. Find out whether they want do the challenge course or the laser tag. Freedom. You decide how you will have fun at the conference. Then, reserve your spots with Pastor Schaaf.
We'll see you in Asheville!
