New Respect

Posted At: 11:20am by FemLem2
The now famous children's book author J.K. Rowling has recently earned a tremendous amount of respect from me.  I will completely (and proudly Blogger Smiley ) admit that i am a Harry Potter fanatic. Movie 5 is in less than a year, and better yet book 7 too! WOOT! But while i was avoiding my homework and surfing one of my favorite websites instead, I found a link to JKR's site, which i realized that i had never  been too.

I guess that maybe i never realized it, but this woman has been working on this series for at least 10 years. She has background stories for every one of her characters. She has created creatures all the way to what to call them, what they look like down to tiny detail and if they can harm you or not. Granted some of these creatures are mythological and have ancient stories, but the fact that she researched this stuff, just to have them one in one book out of a seven book series.... it just blows my mind. The people that she creates for the books are all from her imagination. She has said that only once did she model a character after someone that she knew. And when kids ask her questions about a certain person, and she can rattle off thier backstory without having to look it up or think is absolutely amazing to me.

While i was gazing around her site, i found something else that made me  happy to see and contributed to the respect that i now have for her. She was reading ina magazine and talking to one of the actors from one of the movies, and realized that even for younger kids today, girls are dying to be thin. Everyone wants to be part of the in-crowd. Now, when you think about it, this woman has kids all over the world reading her site. She writes the books that have kids reading again, instead of doing all the technological things that kids do today instead of reading a good book. For a child or young adult, or maybe even adult to read what she has to say about that, she has the ability to reach people all over the world.

To me, any person that has that active of an imagination, deals with issues that are a big deal in todays corrupt society, and has the ability to get kids to pick up a book and read, deserves enormous amounts of respect. And i must say now i wont be so mad when i realize that she took a few months off to be with her family and not write.
