The readings and reflections of the Trinity Season continue to fill our ears with the wonderful gifts of Christ. The teachings of Jesus fill our ears, pointing us to His death and resurrection for our sins and the holy means of grace in which that forgiveness comes to us. We also meditate upon the commandments and the Lord's Prayer in these Reflections. To download the Reflections in a printable booklet format, click here.
The main body of this season's Reflections was written by The Rev. Gregroy Schultz, pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, Illinois.

During the Trinity Season, the church continues to hear of the work of the Triune God shown in the Son's work as true God and true man in Jesus Christ. These Reflections, which continue to carry us through the Trinity season, are drawn from the Sunday Readings, the Daily Readings and portions of the Small Catechism. In them, you will continue to be nourished by the comfort of Christ's saving work accomplished FOR YOU and delivered in His means of grace. The Rev. Carlton Hein, Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Loveland, CO, is the author for this portion of the Trinity season.
Trinity: Apostle's Tide Reflection are now available for download here.

Having
passed through the part of the church year in which we focus on the birth,
suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus, now we embark upon the Trinity
Season. On the Day of Pentecost, the Spirit delivered the forgiveness of sins to
3,000 people through the preaching of Peter and the waters of Holy Baptism. These
Reflections for Pentecost and the start of the Trinity season continually point
us to the that same delivery of Jesus' gifts by the Holy Spirit, now FOR YOU!
Our
Reflections writer for Pentecost and the first few weeks of the Trinity
season is the Rev. Michael Scudder, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Mount
Pleasant, Iowa.

This is Landon Reed. You know him. You love him. He's the Retreat Executive. He scours the free world in search of retreat locations for Higher Things. His favorite tools are google, his trusty GPS, and his extreme-cellphone.
He's always trying to figure out the best way to get the Gospel to the ears of teenagers everywhere and anywhere. This picture, taken in some remote location possibly in Mexico, shows him contemplating where HT will be next!
Now, you don't have to go to Mexico to experience an HT Retreat. There will be retreats popping up all over the United States in the coming year!
In preparation for FOR YOU, there will be pre-conferences lock-ins throughout the US! Look for information and locations in your area soon.
Want to have a retreat in your area? Email Landon today! He can't get you this sombrero, but he can arrange a retreat or lock-in your area.

Dear Friends,
For the past two years, Higher Things has been pleased to provide daily Reflections on our website for college students, youth, and their families. These Gospel devotions have been the hard work of volunteer writers and editors and centered everything we do on the internet around Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Freely they have been given and freely they have been received.
It has been given to me as the Internet Services Executive to oversee the writing and editing of these Reflections. This task has been one of the most enjoyable parts my work as the executive. But due to the great expansion of our website, it is time to pass this wonderful task to a far more gifted pastor and a dear friend of mine, Pastor Mark Buetow.
The Reverend Mark Buetow received his Master of Divinity in 1998 but stayed at the seminary to get his Masters of Sacred Theology in 2000 from Concordia Seminary. He serves Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin, Illinois. He has been married to Susan for 13 years and they have three children (twins Naomi and Anna and Emily). In his free time, Pastor Buetow enjoys playing strategy and boardgames is responsible for getting me addicted to Linux.
We are very excited to have Pastor Buetow involved in Higher Things.
In Christ,
Rev. George F. Borghardt III Internet Services Executive Higher Things, Inc.

Following
His Transfiguration, Jesus "set His face toward Jerusalem" where He
would be betrayed into the hands of sinners, killed and on the third day rise
again. The Season of Pre-Lent teaches us to prepare for the time of Lent when we
contemplate the sufferings of Jesus. Pre-Lent turns our faces toward Jerusalem
with Jesus and yet, we do not go there to find Him, but receive Him where He has
promised to be: in His Word and Sacraments given to us in His holy Church.
To turn our eyes upon Jesus and to call our attention to His salvation delivered in
His gifts, Higher Things presents these Reflections
for the Pre-Lent season
written by the Rev. George Borghardt, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Conroe, Texas.
Pr. Borghardt will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Higher Things Retreat,
"Salvation: Won and
Delivered" in Denver, Colorado this February. Pr. Borghardt is
also the original writer of Higher Things Reflections, we're very grateful that
he's still writing them three years later!

"Happy Christmas, merry Christians! “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (St. John 1:14). God the Son has taken on our nature and has thereby redeemed us, in and through the human nature. He, who hung the moon and stars and put the earth on its axis, did not wait for us to come to Him. If He had to wait for that, He’d still be waiting and we’d have become even more His enemies. But we don’t have to wait anymore and we’re not His enemies. “Christ, the Savior, is born!” Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary comes to its fruition!" (Christmas Day Reflection)
"It's beginning to look a lot like..." Christmastide! Higher Things is very excited to offer devotions for each of the twelve days of Christmas. This year's Christmastide Reflections are written by the Reverend David Lofthus, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Harahan, LA. Pastor Lofthus was one of my heroes as a college student, so these Reflections have special meaning for me.
The booklet of Christmastide Reflections is available for free in pdf-format for download here. You can also receive the Higher Things Reflections in your e-mail box today!
