The Prestige

Posted At: 1:50am by Jon Kohlmeier

“There are three acts to every magic trick. The First Act is The Pledge Where the magician shows you something ordinary, but of course it probably isn't. The Second Act is called The Turn where the magician makes this ordinary something do something extraordinary. The Third Act is called the Prestige. This is the part with the twists and turns, where lives hang in the balance where you see something shocking you have never seen before.”

That description of The Prestige basically sums up the movie. It begins with two magicians who work together. When you have two friends in the same line of work that friendship soon becomes a rivalry. Throughout the course of the movie, Robert Angier played by Hugh Jackman and Alfred Borden played by Christian Bale continually try to find out how the other does his tricks. That rivalry very quickly turns into an obsession. They continually try to out do their former friend no matter what the cost. Lives truly do hang in the balance, whether it be the lives of the magicians themselves or the lives of those that they love.

The best quality in a magician is always keeping your audience asking, how? They certainly do that in this movie. The greatest trick of each of these magicians is called the “Transported Man” something no one had ever seen before. They both try to out do the other. Which finally leads them to seek help from science.

The acting done by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale is excellent! Some of the parts where kind of slow moving and somethings were easy to predict what would happen next. The plot was full of twists and turns, matters of life and death, and things that are altogether shocking. I really enjoyed this movie, but since I saw it with my brother I realize that there are those younger ones who may fall asleep during it.

Overall, I would suggest you see this movie but, it is definatly something you could wait to see until the DVD comes out.

Issues, etc.

I had a wonderful opportunity last night to see a LIVE broadcast of ISSUES, ETC.. The topic was Praise and Worhsip Music. They took a few of the Top CCM songs and evaluated them. Dr. Leonard Payton gives some very good things to look for while listening to  popular praise songs.

Famous?

Posted At: 2:34pm by Jon Kohlmeier
It seems that spending two weeks at CTS in Fort Wayne makes you famous. If you see pictures from Christ Academy chances are I am in them. I was mentioned in my church's monthly newsletter. I even recently made it into the South Wisconsin District news Picture and all. http://swd.lcms.org/PDF/SWDN/SWN2006-09.pdf (found on back page)

The only thing is... I think they need a better picture. My hair looks kinda crazy from the wind...
