Colorado vs. Minnesota

Posted At: 7:36pm by Sandra Ostapowich

Dare I even say it?  Colorado MAY be just as good as (maybe even better) than Minnesota.

First of all, Colorado has snow.  I don't think I've fallen up to my waist in snowbank (standing up!) since I was in elementary school.  I did it again two weeks ago. It was awesome.  And it hasn't melted away yet - it's still up to my knees.  I also noticed last winter that cold temperatures don't feel as cold in Colorado as they did in Minnesota either.  Supposedly that's the dry air, which the amount of lotion and chapstick we now use can attest to as well.  But when 25oF in Colorado feels like about 35-40oF in Minnesota, I'm certainly not going to complain.  The temps feel cooler in the summer too - how awesome is that?!

I was missing one thing though.  Despite all the snow, and the holidays, it still didn't feel right and I couldn't put my finger on it.

When I came to visit Loveland last year (because Mt. Olive was crazy enough to offer me a job as their Christian Education and Youth Director) I drove west on Highway 34 - an important fact because that is toward the mountains, which is another Colorado bonus - and came to a curve where the road bends around Lake Loveland.  For about 1/4 mile driving around the south end of the lake, I felt like I was back in Minnesota, where it seems that no road stays straight for very long because it eventually has to go around a lake.  And at that moment, I knew I was going to stay, everything was about as perfect as could be.

Today, I drove the same route and to my delight and surprise, there were ice houses out on the lake.  Now, I've never been ice fishing, and I have no desire to go ice fishing, but there's something wonderfully homey and familiar about seeing ice houses dotting a frozen lake.

Isaac and I will be flying to Minneapolis in a few weeks to visit family since we stayed here on our own for the holidays.  But it amazes me how the Lord has provided everything I could possibly need here back home, including ice houses on Lake Loveland to make me smile.

Re: Colorado vs. Minnesota

Hehe. Blogger Smiley I loved what I saw of CO at the Feast. But here I am after moving to MN. Ice houses certainly are a common sight. They were in SK too, but I didn't live right on a lake there. I went ice fishing for the first time a few weeks ago. I was missing snow and afraid we wouldn't have a white Christmas, but it snowed a few days before. We've got about 5 inches of snow now, but the temp is still hovering right around freezing.

Colorado snow for sale

Check this article out:

LOVELAND, Colo. — Three snowballs from Loveland have sold on the eBay Internet auction site for $200.

Chris Hansen, a firefighter from Milford, Conn., said he bought the snow for his daughters, ages 12, 14, and 16.

Re: Colorado vs. Minnesota

Ah, Colorado is a wonderful state indeed. Good weather, mountains, etc. It's almost as good as Texas or Chicagoland ...but only almost.
