I'm
not sure quite what to think about this
one from the Baptists. Once upon a time, colleges and universities
everywhere offered Home Ec degrees. There doesn't seem to be much
practical value to an undergraduate degree in home economics anymore. I
suppose it's not such a surprise they're actually kind of difficult to find now,
given our culture's attitudes toward homemaking these days. Yes, it's an
acceptable and even valued choice for women to stay home and raise their young
children...but it is nearly always at the (temporary) sacrifice of a greater
career.
Is this a way to make sure the pastor's wife is the Queen of the Kitchen
Ladies at whatever church he serves and always brings the best hotdishes to the
potlucks? Is there a parallel to be drawn between our seminaries for
pastoral training and the deaconess program?
I'm intrigued by this. There are things I agree with (in principle at
least), and others that just rub me the wrong way. What about the rest of
you?
