Madre's Missives

I have family in New Orleans, Kenner to be precise.  My mom and brother just returned from trips down there to help them rebuild.  Thought I'd share some pictures...

This is what just a couple of feet of that nasty flood water can do to the interior of an average, middle-class suburban home.

This was a guest room/my uncle's office (he runs/ran an Inventory business out of the home).  Now it's for storage.

This was the kitchen.

This was the livingroom.  (My aunt is resting in the wheelchair because she threw her back out while putting insulation in the hallway wall earlier that day.)

Most people have returned to the neighborhood to rebuild, but everyone is living in trailers in their driveways.

Around town...

Shrimp boats aren't normally found in the middle of a neighborhood street.

Then again, motorboats aren't usually found on roofs.

This cement in-ground pool was once in someone's BACKyard.

We're not sure where this car started out, but the owner did not park it there.

Nor did this one start out in the tree.

Who knows what crumpled this one...

What used to be a neighborhood street.

Notice the spraypainting on the front of the house.  There is a 2 inside that 0.  Clearly that meant there were 2 people inside that roof at one point.
