Mephitis mephitis: Bad Odor

OK.
I finally have a complaint about Colorado. In the scheme of things it's a
fairly minor complaint, but I'm more confused than anything. Is the skunk
the state animal here or something?
Nearly every day for the last couple
of weeks, in my short drive to church or around town, I've encountered a skunk
(dead or spray) somewhere along the way.
I haven't always seen the perpetrator (or victim, I suppose), but I've certainly smelled
it. Do they live in herds or something?? If so, there's a particularly stupid
skunk herd living around south Loveland. I suppose they'll eventually get
a clue or all become roadkill.

Sandra,
I think I know how you feel. Whenever I was living in Grand Island,. it constantly smelled like poop. Depending on where the wind was blowing, it was either cow poop or pig poop. It didn't matter to me. It smelled awful no matter what "flavor" it was. What made it worse is that nobody who was born and raised there smelled. It was like they were immune to it. I wish I had that "talent"!

Don't get me started about the "water" treatment plant just about a half-mile away (a.k.a. "the stinky factory"). I've lived near water treatment plants before and they never smelled like that. Fortunately, my house is not usually downwind.

I think your skunks have there mating season wrong. Sometimes warm summers can trigger that or a second one. Make sure your little man doesnt decide to say hi to the black kitty. (wash in tomato juice and lemon juice

madre... you don't want the skunks to become road kill... they smell worse when they die, and if it's on your car... no bueno~FL1
