The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. Alleluia! By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. Alleluia! (Psalm 33:5-6, from the Introit for Easter 3)
He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. God created everything for you. All of creation is a gift. He filled the earth with His goodness, and He delivered it.
We mess it up. We fill up the earth with our "goodness." We fill our world and our own lives with what we think is good. This really amounts to filling our days, our lives, our browser history with things that make us feel good. Really our goodness is just our own selfishness and desires.
But the Word who made the heavens and who fills all things came into this world. "He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary." He fills our world with His goodness by coming into our world to redeem it and us. He came to deliver us from death--the death we deserved because of our sinful selfishness, which separates us from Him.
He brings you to Himself. He turns you away from you. He baptizes you, giving you newness of life in Him. He fills the whole earth with His goodness and glory as He delivers His Body and Blood on the many and various altars around the world "for us Christians to eat and to drink." He fills you with His goodness in your eating and drinking of His Body and Blood for there you receive forgiveness, life, and salvation.
Tomorrow you and your world are filled with the Lord's goodness. He, once again, delivers you out of your own goodness, which isn't really goodness at all. Instead of all that, He delivers His goodness, His Body and Blood, His forgiveness, and He delivers you from death as you await the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
The body of God's Lamb we eat, A priestly food and priestly meat; On sin-parched lips the chalice pours His quenching blood that life restores. (The Infant Priest Was Holy Born, LSB 624:6)
