Today's Reading: 1 John 3:1-3
Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we are has not yet been reveals. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him for we will see Him as He is. (1 John 3:2)
He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. You are a baptized child of God. Oh, we can live as if it doesn't matter and not even give it a second thought. That's what we do daily and much. We live as if we're not God's children, as if we're made for this life only. We could walk away from our Baptism and forsake our birthright. But it's still there for us. Baptism always remains. We can always return to it.
We are God's children, but sometimes we don't feel like we are. We may hear the words, but we don't feel it. Maybe we don't feel it because when we look at our lives, it doesn't look like we're His children. We've got our past--all the skeletons in our closest, our baggage. What if people knew? So, we put on a front to everyone around us, but we know the truth. We also know this: God knows the truth as well.
But you are His child. He made you His child in Holy Baptism. You were united with His Son, Jesus. Jesus lived the perfect life and shed His blood to ransom you back to the Father. Your Baptism delivers that. Yes, we still live our life in the flesh, but we live it by faith in the Son of God who died and shed His blood for us. In our flesh, in ourselves, we see nothing good. We just can't see that we are perfect, holy, and sinless in Jesus.
We trust it, because we trust Him. He is true to His promises. He saves. He delivers. He died. He rose. We're in Him by Baptism, and on the Last Day, we'll see that it's been true all along. It will be revealed not only to eyes of faith, but we'll actually see it with our physical eyes. For "we know that when He appears, we will be like Him for we will see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2).
He is perfect, holy, and sinless. That's you now, in Him. It really is! Your Baptism says so. On the Last Day and forever that will be you with Him. He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
God's own child, I gladly say it: I am baptized into Christ! He, because I could not pay it, Gave my full redemption price. Do I need earth's treasures many? I have one worth more than any That brought me salvation free Lasting to eternity! (God's Own Child, I Gladly Say It, LSB 594:1)
