Anan's (not-so) Randomness!

No quotation marks... We wouldn't want to seem too uppity, now would we?

How do you like me now?

Posted On: April 03rd, 2008 at 2:19 pm

It strikes me that I've been spending far too much time worrying about what other people think of me. I refuse to believe that they actually have anything resembling a positive opinion of me in general. I even think this of my friends, by which I am insulting them, and for that I'm sorry.

Is it that I think they feel the same way I do? That can't be true because I don't dislike my friends! Ga! My feeling can't possibly be prompted by deliberate actions on their part, though I may be sitting around and reading into things that transpire. Nobody has said that they despise me or otherwise in so many words.

How about my acquaintances? Properly I shouldn't care a stitch what my acquaintances think of me. Hhhmm... there are quite a few Country Songs on this topic, aren't there?

Then I think that I should change my behavior and try to be a nicer and "warmer" person. It has been argued that I'm really not all that mean and heartless. Maybe I'm not, but I don't think I act like it (not mean that is). It's likely that I would simply scare people if I started being really nice, and even positive. <gasp> This would be pretty much impossible anyway because I'm sure I couldn't just will myself to be perky positive.

So I must offer my apologies to y'all for these resentful feelings. Wow. I found a new way to be negative! I wonder how many other ways I could be mean to people without them knowing and then apologise for it on my blog?!?!?!? The possibilities are endless! <rubs hands together>

p.s. To top it all off I'm still very distracted and I have trouble getting from one end of the house to the other without forgetting what I'm doing and wandering off in another direction.

Oh Anan! I don't quite know what to say because I feel the same way but am unable to so eloquently express it.

Why oh, why do I assume that my friends have the same sinful jealousies towards me that my sinful nature would want me to have if I were in their place? Why do I always assume the worst?

But now matter how hard we try to be warmer, nicer, funner, more attractive girls, the more hopeless we, at least I, feel.

I guess we need to recognize that we are unable to perfectly act, respond, or think about ourselves and our neighbor. But the good news is that Christ did do all that perfectly in our place. In our baptism, all those sour jealous attitudes are drowned and put behind us, even though we again fall into the same trap pretty much all the time. We are constantly forgiven.

Since we are forgiven, the new 'man' in us ought to daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever. Yeah, that sounds like wishful thinking, though. But it's not really.

If it were up to us to "make" the new man rise and live righteously, the whole thing would be a big joke because we can't live, speak, think what God wants us to live, speak, think on our own. We can't even do it with *a little help* from God. But that's the whole beauty of baptism - it's what God does!

As often as we fail to fear, love and trust in God above all things, God forgives us. Not because we're really sorry and promise never to be negative, jealous, or fearful of man's opinion again, but because Christ died for us to make us His sisters and children of God.

We can rest in that forgiveness.

While we should never stop trying to honor our Father by our thoughts, words, and deeds, as long as we are on this planet we are still contending with our sinful nature which "does not want us to hallow God's name or let His kingdom come." We will sin. That's a nasty fact. But we are also perfect. We are justified by Christ's work. Not ours.

So Anan is perfect, and sarahlaughs is perfect. Sarahlaughs and Anan do not fret about the opinions of others. Sarahlaughs and Anan don't think negatively. Sarahlaughs and Anan don't attribute their own resentful feelings to others. Sarahlaughs and Anan are righteous because Christ is righteous. He has taken our sin and given us His righteousness. Although in the mirror of the law we are far from pure, according to the Gospel we are innocent.

Uh, yeah. That was longwinded. My apologies. I guess I did think of something to say. I hope you don't mind.

Um, what sarahlaughs said.

But you is Anan! Who couldn't like you? (VEAWAEBI!) I think we all feel like that... if we have healthy-but-not-too-healthy egos. At least, you do, sarahlaughs does, i do... If we have snap, that'll be a majority.

p. s. I'm rubbing off on you. I do that all the...
what was i say...?
uh...
coffee.

eh? If four of us makes a majority, then our sample must be no larger than seven.

...oh, yeah, didn't we say something about four always being the majority....? ....maybe it was my imagination.
