Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! for the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion on His afflicted.
(Is. 49:13)
Have you ever heard other Christians talking about how great their life has been ever since they accepted Jesus into their heart? Have you wondered why your life isn’t going so great? After all, if you’re a Christian, shouldn’t life be a bed of roses? Well, maybe it is… but someone forgot to take the thorns out. What’s up with that?
The thing is, being a Christian doesn’t make your life automatically go smoother. It does make it better, just not in the way you’re thinking. There are going to be days that just can’t seem to go right. There are going to be days where you feel like curling up in a corner and never coming out. Being a Christian doesn’t change that. What it does do is give you a Refuge.
Today, we celebrated Pentecost and the sending of the Holy Spirit, who is often called the Comforter. When you just can’t seem to shake the feeling that you’re alone or your day just keeps getting worse and worse, there is the Holy Spirit. He is pointing you to your Baptism and Holy Communion. There you will find Christ, your Refuge. While the storms of life rage around you, you are safe in Christ. Thanks be to God for providing a Comforter!
