Did I miss something?!?

Posted At: 4:19pm by TripletTwo
When did it become acceptable to wear spandex in public?!

Last I heard, spandex was only allowed in two places: at the gym and on super-heroes. Clearly I've missed something somewhere along the line. Was there a memo? I'm confused . . . and horrified.

Re: Did I miss something?!?

What form of spandex has terrified you so? Was it Richard Simmons-type spandex or just someone running around in leggings?

Re: Did I miss something?!?

It has apparently become not only socially acceptable, but popular to wear leggings/tights/"pants" made of spandex and other similar tight, stretchy (and often less than opaque) fabrics. Thankfully they are usually worn along with extra long shirts. And this isn't just girls! Today I saw a guy with spandex pants, white dressy shoes (after labor day! ), and a jacket -- with the collar popped.

Perhaps this latest 80's falshback fashion trend is localized to IU. I suppose people at OTHER schools may not be as, er, up to date. ;p

Re: Did I miss something?!?

Ahem.

Tights and leggings are both very stylish right now. I am the proud owner of a pair of cute black leggings, which I DO wear in public, mostly with tunics and long shirts, although I'm hoping to find a skirt I can pair them with.

As for OTHER schools...No, thank goodness, most of the other students up here aren't on the leggings kick yet, but since the average girl around here seems to be 2 or 3x my size, I am extremely thankful and hope it will stay that way. ;o)

As for guys....*shudder* that's just tacky.

Et tu, Bethany?

Re: Did I miss something?!?

Rachael, we must keep Beppers from reading InStyle magazine! It is melting her brain! ;o)

Really though, Beppy I'm sure your leggings are.... uhm... as classy as leggings possibly can be. I'm talking about the tighter-than-skin-I-can-see-every-wrinkle-and-dimple-in-your-skin-EEW
type of leggings. Today I got stuck walking behind some chick with a pair of these "pants" -- and she didn't have the courtesy to wear a top or skirt that actually covered her rear end. Heh heh... I guess I should be happy that she was skinny . . .

Re: Did I miss something?!?

Oh...well...that.....Ick. Really, the long shirt/skirt is veryveryvery important.
Just remember that leggings in and of themselves are not offensive! (Poor little leggings- it's not their fault people are tasteless....)

And...just for everyone else's sake- I'm really not as shallow as I sound. ;o)
