For me Wednesday was about beer and singing. And singing about beer.
In the morning I bounced out of bed, bleary eyed and groggy, but bouncing nonetheless. The first full day of the conference, and I was ready! It started with singing - choir practice at 7:30 (WOO HOO!). Getting out of bed was the one downside of the conference, but it was worth it! I can't thing of a better beginning to my day than singing Psalms and hymns in such a beautiful sanctuary.
The sectionals were wonderful (of course!). I think that was the best day of Dad's in-depth. It was the day he used Mom's now famous quote "When you drink tea, you have to pee!" Mother dear was rather embarrassed when she found out that she was quoted in such a way, but I think that it fit perfectly. Perhaps I'm just biased, but I think Pr. Stuckwisch's session was savage!
I also attended "Surviving the Secular University" with Pr. Zill (something I hope to do for the next four years) and the elective breakaway "Does God Care? The Choices you make in Life" with Pr. Rottman. I was a little surprised that the elective sessions didn't have higher attendance, but I suppose that I only attended one and because of that I have been described as a "hard core Lutheran."
Here is where the beer bit comes in. During the free time my youth group toured the Budweiser brewery. I had been on the tour before, but it was still fun. I personally find the thought of drinking something that smells so bad unattractive; but my inner chemist finds the brewing process rather fascinating. Plus, beer is the 'Lutheran beverage' according to my sources. It ranks right up there with Jell-O salad and avoiding the front row. In fact it probably ranks even higher. I doubt Luther ever had Jell-O salad, and he doesn't seem like the back row type . . . I hope we left the tour guide with a good impression of Lutheran chicks. He seemed rather pleased after being told he was cute and begged to pose for pictures. We wanted to make Naomi's husband feel guilty for not coming along so we got our guide to pose with Naomi for several snapshots. Then Ashley (girl from church) asked for a shot of just him because she thought he was cute. Definitely one of the more amusing parts of the trip!
Most of my group left the awesome ball game early to miss the rush. Apparently we weren't the only brilliant people there that evening because we had a long, sweaty, crowded wait for the metro. To pass the time we burst into song. The crowd was entertained by such classics as The Song That Never Ends (yes, it goes on, and on my friends . . .) and Lean On Me, and finishing with the always-charming little ditty about beer on the wall. I think it brought the evening to a nice finish, connecting the singing from the morning and the beer from the afternoon.
Unfortunately I was not smart enough to go to bed at that point, so the evening continued for several more hours. A group of MHers gathered in the Reinert ballroom for games and candy. A few adults joined us (which isn't at all lame but a blast), and a number of us played Store. If you have played the game before it will not shock you that my Father was selling drugs and the EMT was selling body parts. If you haven't played the game . . . be afraid. Be very afraid.
I did go to bed shortly after 11:30, and then proceeded to talk with T3 until the very wee hours of the morning. Eventually we did manage to drift off to sleep, anxiously awaiting the next day of fun.

I will never forget buying numerous body parts off of Nick... I think I may have enough for half a person!
