More than likely, the skateboarders will vandalize this before the rains ever come.

Is it still there? Can't you seal it with something? Even if it only lasts a couple of months?

No, sadly but wonderfully, our angel is fading away. Sadly, because we will miss this delightful masterpiece. Wonderfully, because it hasn't been defaced by the skateboarders and the street urchins. Apparantly there is still some respect for beauty. There is hope.

The artist, Melanie Stimmel, takes delight in the temporariness of her work. Dust it is, and to dust it returns. I love that. We can only hold the things we love in the loose, dead hand of faith. Only in Christ are things held forever. To seal this work with something to preserve it would be to prolong the death that ultimately brings life. How sad it would be the next time we have to pave over the parking lot! Far better that the glory simply fades.
