Yes it is creepy. It would be better if it gave waist size and favorite food. Blogger Smiley

Bill,
Cute and Creepy - well, I'm in Bagram, Afghanistan and the colorful creature tells me that I live near New Dehli. I suppose that tells you about the computer tech who set up the internet service in my little hovel. No squishy for you, Homer.

Re: This is Cute and Creepy at the Same Time

You may not be where you think you are.

Re: This is Cute and Creepy at the Same Time

Hah - it got my service provider wrong as well.....

unfortuntely it was right about my location. Anyone want some bbq?

Re: This is Cute and Creepy at the Same Time

It only knows the location of the point where you access the internet.

If you are on a Local Area Network that spans cites, the point where your server gives you access to the web is where it thinks you are. Your actual computer does not access the internet independently, it may access through a server that is very far from you. If that server goes down, you lose internet access. The location on this little application is the server access point... not you. You will see this alot with websites that give you local weather reports based on your IP address location.

For example: if your company has a server that spans several states. Your computer may be in Missisippi, but your company's network may grant you internet access at their headquarters in Alabama. You get on the internet through Alabama and this application cannot see down into the LAN. It will say that you are in Alabama because that its where your Information Superhighway onramp is located.

Also, the company that bills you for internet may be using a third party provider. You may pay a company like "Dave's House of Cheap Internet" for service, but he is really using Netscape to get you logged on. This little application will say you use Netscape. It is like when you sign up with a mom & pop car insurance company, but they are really just an independent agent who works as a middle man. You are really going through a big company like Progressive.

Bill, strangely enough it got it right for me, but it is exactly the same IP address, service provider and location as you! How is this possible? Mark

Re: This is Cute and Creepy at the Same Time

The ISP is correct. I am using Windows XP and I do live near Caseville. (Pigeon to be exact. Linkville is where the church is located. Good luck finding that! As to the rest of the message, I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. Was this done under the Patriot Act? Wait until Hillary finds out about this! BTW, great sermons. A Blessed All Saints.
