My Praise Band

This could turn me into a fan of Contemporary Christian Music.

Re: My Praise Band

Absolutely hilarious! Was that Greg Brady on the drums? I see a praise dude, but no praise babe. I will need more convincing. The praise dude sang that the message is still the same. "I tried to run hide, but Jesus came and found me and he touched me down inside." Uhhh. "He is like a mounty; he always gets his man. And he'll zap you anyway he can. Zap!!" Uhhh. The tune is very catchy, no argument there. It just sounds too VBS for me. Not something that blends well with the historic liturgy of the church.

Re: My Praise Band

Thanks Pr. Cwirla. Now thats gonna be stuck in my head all day!

Re: My Praise Band

The one guitarist is doing the same thing most of the CCM ska bands do... granted, the vox are quite a bit cornier. If you really are digging the sound I could hook you up with some band names from my high school days. Blogger Smiley

Re: My Praise Band

I first heard this on Fighting for the Faith. The video gives it added dimension. Jesus doesn't leave you flat, after all.

Re: My Praise Band

Earworm alert!

Re: My Praise Band

Yeah, my wife says she's been hearing it for 12 hours now. You may have to listen to a Bach cantata just to wash your brain out.

This is the Partridge Family gone religious.

Re: My Praise Band

Funny and disturbing; mostly the latter. I'm sure glad I didn't grow up with that kind of music.

There are CCM ska bands? I've heard of polka mass, and metal mass, and I've seen your basic praise band performing Christian radio hits, but I'm still waiting for grunge church. That I might actually like.

Re: My Praise Band

Definitely disturbing.

Re: My Praise Band

Actually, there were some "Christian ska" bands. Most noteworthy were The O.C. Supertones, the Insyderz, and Five Iron Frenzy.

Of those three, FIF were my favorites because they were goofy, lyrically.

The very fact that I know this and occasionally still pull out the FIF albums will probably lead to being disfellowshipped by the orthodox Lutheran brethren. Oh well.

Re: My Praise Band

Don't worry... I do the same thing... Every now and then I find myself with an Insyderz album playing on iTunes. Then I take a cold shower and come back to reality. Blogger Smiley

TMI

Re: My Praise Band

Aww, come on man! We're bonding man, reminiscent of days happy-clappy days before we all became angry Lutherans.

So now, enlighten me on this one. You're telling me that this is an intentional musical form and not satire?

Re: My Praise Band

Do a little iTunes search with those band names. Five Iron Frenzy, I would specifically suggest "Dandelions", "Oh, Canada" and "Superpowers". Blogger Smiley Yeah... it may be intentional. :)

I will follow now with quotes from what was once a favorite song of mine... before I found Martin Franzman, of course. This one is entitled "Suckerpunch", a clever ska-tune with similar guitar picking structures to your YouTube video.

Coke bottle glasses,
I'm sitting in the corner with my finger up my nose,
And my shoelaces untied again,
Another day of school with no friends.
A social outcast,
Two grades ahead in math,
with my highwater pants,
Giving meaning to pencil-necked-geek,
A dork or so to speak, tongue-in-cheek.

They're all sucker-punching me,
Get in line for a wedgie.
All I want and all I need,
Is someone who believes in me.

A song sung for underdogs,
for all the left out.
A flag flying for losers,
somewhere in the Heavens.
The God of ever-lasting comfort,
believed in me,
Loved me when I was faithless,
he still died for me.

Zap!

Re: My Praise Band

Cosnidering that these guys are wearing duds that are older than TLH, and their music sounds like something out the chicago stock yards...

I aint sure this is contemporary.

Re: My Praise Band

Hey, I used to be *in* a ska band in high school. We did the occasional Five Iron song.

I was the bass player.

Re: My Praise Band

stand up bass? cool!

Re: My Praise Band

Hey, does anyone know how to hack YouTube so that people will get Rickrolled to this video instead?

Re: My Praise Band

No, electric bass.

Re: My Praise Band

This is not a parody? I've never heard it, and I hope I don't hear it again, but I'm afraid it's too late. Now I've got it in my head.

Re: My Praise Band

I wake up at 3 AM some mornings with this song going off in my head. It's like a computer virus.

Re: My Praise Band

And just think, because your MAC version of the virus is so much more enhanced and high quality, it is even more haunting than that which us poor PC users were subjected to seeing!

By the way - someone else covered this..or at least had fun dubbing it . Perhaps even more disturbing.

Re: My Praise Band

Oh wow. My husband keeps playing this over and over. And he gets this smirk on his face when he does it.

Re: My Praise Band

That's not nice to do.
