Come, heavenly fire!

Refine the ore of our humanity

Fouled by Adam’s rebel dross

Burn what mars divine reflection,

Image of the Son on us emboss.

Come, heavenly fire!

Fiery flame beneath the holocaust 

Father, where’s the sacrifice?

Behold the Lamb!  Behold the Son!

Cross-shed Blood, our redemption price.

Come, heavenly fire!

Light the path through parted desert sea,

Fiery pillar in the darkness.

Rain on us a baptism flood;

Grant our tongues your holy Name confess.

Come, heavenly fire!

Spark the dimly burning wick of faith,

Faintly glowing ember soul;

Lift the smoke of priestly prayer

Burnish sinful lips with cleansing coal.

Come, heavenly fire!

Gather, sanctify, enlighten, teach;

Burning bush aglow with holy fusion

Shekinah on Torah mountain

Kindle hearts anew with Scripture passion.

Come, heavenly fire!

Inspire languid tongues so slow to speak,

Warm our Laodicean apathy

Unleash new predicates of praise

To preach Good News in grand diversity.
