It's amazing what you discover when you Google your own name. I just discovered that I have an innovative communion cup holder named after me by some Aussies. Well, sort of. They apparently had to change the spelling so you'd pronounce it right in Australia.
This is an innovative as the individual cup itself, sporting anodized aluminum plate, high impact plastic, and unique peanut shaped design. I wonder if I have a trademark claim here?
This is a lot better than the bathroom rendition of my name from 2nd grade:
Great, it takes the whole concept of those cheesy and disrespectful "Jesus Jiggers" to yet another new low. Get rid of the last hint of the holy, no gold tray that might at least imply something precious was there, say the blood of Christ for example. No, you need a plastic holder for your plastic cup from which you drink your fruit juice as you "remember" your "Buddy Jesus." You really should look into the trademark thing. If I were you I'd demand they change the name, or better yet, stop making the atrocious things.

Good news for you tray haters.
I hear some leaders in the Synod are determined to rid the synod of these things. In fact, its being taken a step farther. Congregations are being entirely transformed in such a way as to virtually marginalize the Sacrament of the Altar as a whole, thus practically eliminating the need for trays at all anymore.
So let's quit being such "Debbie Downers" about things synodical and learn to look on the brighter side of life.
I don't remember the Didache listing the lower picture as a possible mode for baptism, but you never know with some groups who would avoid immersion, lest they look like the baptists.
As to marginalizing communion, if you are referring to the revitalization folk - the ones I know see the sacrament of the altar as critically important, and advocate weekly communion. Indeed, even the transforming congregations folk (or church revitalization, or the label of the day) in the reformed, baptist and methodist churches talk about the necessity of regular communion
As to the vessel, gold or silver (or brass with gold "plating" chalices are about as a-biblical as the glass cups disdained. Focus all you want on the cup, and man's determination of what is respectful. For me, my focus is on the contents, Wine and Blood of Jesus Christ, given for them.

It's a gnats and camels thang for me, Pr. Cwirla
Hey, I recently re-read a critique of "A Statement of Biblical and Confessional Principles" which was published back in 1973. Already back then, this observation was made in the critique: "A Statement gives not one word of guidance about the mission of the Church in relation to her worship life. In a time when commissions on worship, worship committees, young people, indeed almost everyone is changing liturgical forms, using new texts and hymns, casting off what is tried and true, re-orienting the focus of worship, introducing forms that are strange and maybe even trivial, it is appalling that A Statement and its study edition should give no guidance to this dimension of the mission of the Church." That sounds to me so 2009-ish. (Just so you know I'm not a flaming conservative, the critique I quoted from was written by Valpo professors.)
IOW, the question is: what is the relationship of the Altar to mission and outreach?
Good question, I think. A camel-strainer type question.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
But this comment has veered a million miles away from the spirit and nature of your original post. So please feel free to delete it without any hard feelings held by yours truly.

The really scary thing is that is exactly my bathroom floor that we put in last year. I don't recognize the toilet, however.

Two things for Rev. PTM:
1) I don't think the "Larry" commenting on these posts is the Larry you think it is (of the Beane variety). Take a look at the e-mail address.
2) Speak for yourself, man, about not being impressed with General Scuttlebut! I thought he was hilarious! I miss the General. He even made fun of me once or twice, but I didn't object. It was like MAD Magazine for the LCMS.

I never assume anything about identities on the internet. Shoot, I don't even assume that this blog is mine.
I too consider it an honor to be mocked by General Scuttlebutt, who originally posted the Swirly on his private site. I'm especially honored by the General's tribute site to me: http://generalscuttlebutt.blogspot.com/. Kind of a "man crush" as they say, but I understand.
I do find it a bit strange that the General never mocked Larry Beane, however.
Sorry, Pastor C, this is totally off-topic. But we have a group of moms who are looking for the HT forums, and wanting to introduce their kids to some of the things HT has to offer. The old-timer moms whose kids were on Mouthhouse and have been to conferences (and married kids off to other HT kids) are having a hard time navigating the website and finding the forums. I tried the "contact us" page and couldn't figure out who to contact there. We've browsed the website and can't find it. Can you direct us where to send our kids to find the chatty place? We keep getting "page cannot be found" when we type in what we thought was the right address.
