OK, so it isn't a romantic "chick flick" and it's not one of those terminate everyone in sight action movies, but there's a must-see documentary coming out next Friday that you will want to take your tough-minded sweetheart and maybe have some serious conversation at Starbucks afterward.
The film is called "Ben Stein Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed" and is reported to deal with the topic of Intelligent Design in the classroom. I don't know more than that, but I'm making a date to see it.
Agree with it or not, you've got to see this one. It'll make for great conversation.

I watched the trailer for this a few days ago, and it seems to be dealing not so much with intelligent design, but rather the stranglehold evolutionists place on anyone who disagrees with them. I, too, want to see it, but my locale is a bit too isolated for seeing it on opening day.

The movie's summary page states this:
"Ben realizes that he has been "Expelled," and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired - for the "crime" of merely believing that there might be evidence of "design" in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance."
It appears that the movie is about the coordinated attempt to suppress the teaching of "design" in the classroom.

I haven't watched the trailer, but it has been discussed among campus ministries in our region since it is the focus of this weekend's regional retreat hosted by Pr Jarvis and the UMN-Morris. Professor PZ Myers from the UMN-Morris is featured in the movie and will be debating CU-W professor Menuge as part of the retreat activities. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I'm attending at HT retreat instead. However our deaconess intern and several of the campus ministries in the Dakotas and Minnesota will be in attendance. Folks in the area should contact Pr Jarvis for more information. Maybe you could get him to blog about it??
Ironically, there was a preview of Expelled at the Mall of America and the press reported that Professor Myers was kicked out of the theaters and not allowed to attend, even though he is in the movie.
